Histopathological Study on the Liver in the Corrosive Esophagitis Experimentally Produced with Acetic Acid

Abstract
The corrosive esophagitis on rabbits are produced experimentally with 3.0 cc of 3.0 % solution of acetic acid and the macroscopic and histopathological findings of Liver are carefully followed up as:
(1) The changes in the liver begin from the first day after ingestion of acetic acid. These are characterized by congestion and dilation of blood vessels, including thrombogenesis. On the other hand there appear edematous swelling, necrobiosis and necrosis in the parenchyme of the liver.
(2) Above changes become progressively severe and reach its peak at the 5 th day. On the 7th day there appear fatty degenerations. The congestion of the interlobular veins and central veins and proliferation of the interlobular connective tissues continue to exist for a long period then they reach within normal finding at the end of the 5th week.
(3) With these findings I can guess that there occur histopatho logical changes in the parenchymal tissue and vascular system of the liver due to the acetic acid which is poured into the liver directly through blood vessels. Also I believe the possibility of the absorption of substances from tissue destruction which is influenced from the exacerbation of the liver changes.
